Birthday Palooza

Brynne turned 5 in December! She had a blast with her buddies at an indoor bounce house!

Then Beau and I celebrated our birthdays in January and Madelyn celebrated her 2nd birthday with an Elmo party in February!

A 5 year old and a 2 year old...really? How is this possible if we're still 29?

Closing down 2011

We are not quite settled in Temple yet. The girls and I ended up living with my dad for most of the past month and a half while the girls finished school, Brynne had her school Christmas and birthday party, Brynne had an adenoidectomy surgery, then Christmas, and I had a partial hysterectomy. Whew...we made it! Crazy times. Meanwhile Beau is working hard in Temple getting his territory up and rolling.

For Brynne, she caught croup in September, which inflammed her adenoids to the point of no return causing sleep apnea. Beau and I experienced some scary few weeks as we sat up listening to her horrible snoring and gasping for air. It got better a few weeks later, but the Dr said it would come back with each cold. Talk about night and day difference from after surgery and before. Before croup, she had none of the signs of large adenoids, (besides her genetics), but the Dr. said they were the largest he had ever seen. Now she can breathe well and sleeps so soundly...and quitely!

Patient Number One...she was so brave...and boy did she give us a laugh once the laughing gas started to work! Proud of my big 5 year old!

Patient Number Two

I still can't believe I have had two children and a hysterectomy all before turning 32. Then again, I have felt "young" for many of my life experiences thus far. Everyone asks if they found cancer because of my family history-nope, just a prolapsed uterus from big babies...guess I kinda signed up for that when I married a 6'6 man!

Now for Maddy. Sweet girl's hair is in pig tails every day...and will be for awhile until the mullet grows enough to where we can cut it! This child is hilarious...she has such a funny personality and keeps us rolling all the time! She does silly dances around the house and makes it her goal at dinner to make Brynne laugh. Can't believe she is almost 2!

I know...a mini-Beau

This year has definitely been a year of travel and flexibility! Brynne's teacher told me at her year-end review that she was the most flexible student she has had in regards to change...Ha! I would hope so after living in frisco, then hawaii, then frisco, then temple, then with Dad, all in one year! We have enjoyed our experiences but are ready to get settled all together again.

December Whirlwind

We moved everything to Belton, mid November...but we have barely been home! Life is nothing short of CRAZY this month. We have continued back and forth between Dallas and Belton for Thanksgiving and for the girls to finish out the semester at their school. I also ran the White Rock Half Marathon Dec. 4th, (in the cold, pouring rain and wind..but the sis-in-law and I had trained for 3 months and were determined to finish). Coming up we have Brynne's Christmas party, Brynne's Birthday and party, and Brynne's surgery (adenoidectomy) on the 16th. Then it's Christmas and my partial hysterectomy on the 27th. Like I said..crazy. We covet your prayers this month and look forward to the time when we can actually settle down in Belton and make it more of a home.

Temple It Is!

For the past year Beau has been "in training" for becoming a territory manager for his company. Many places were "tossed" at us...Tampa, Phoenix, Hawaii, and Tulsa to name a few. We prayed that God would get us ready for the next step; knowing He was already there and had a perfect plan. As things have unfolded, the plan for us has turned out to be Temple, Texas.
Where? Yep. Between Dallas and Austin if you're not from here. We move there mid November.
These past 2 months of being home have been great to see family and friends, yet weird in that we never "settled." We knew our time here was short, we have been waiting for an answer, and constantly cleaning or packing.
We know one person in Temple...however, we have heard story after story of friends of friends who love it there and say it's a neat family town. We will be living in Belton, which is known for great schools and having a young family population.
There have definitely been a few "you turned down Hawaii to live in Temple...you have to be kidding me, " kind of responses.
But what has overridden those has ironically come from our church family. 6 different friends from church have said one comment separate from knowing others had said the same thing: "I can't wait to see what God is going to do with you guys there, because He IS already there." When this city girl is driving down country roads, that statement will never leave me. God in His sovereign providence has prepared us for this step...in so many ways. He showed us in Hawaii how He always goes before us, and we're resting in Him, knowing He is in control. Doesn't mean it will be easy. I am excited that it's only 2 hrs, 15 min from our family and friends,(considering it could have been 12 hours, or an ocean away). We have recently had dinner with different sets of friends who have told us stories of their friends that love it there...and we're settling into the idea of being a Belton, TX kind of family :o)

Homecoming

Our homecoming was sweet. We were greeted much to our surprise by the entire family when we arrived home from the airport. We had a great time hugging on one another and enjoying breakfast.We spent every day with another family for the next 2 weeks.

Saying Goodbye was so tough. We made some really good friends, and we don't have $1500/person money flowing to be able to visit them often. We were very excited to see our friends and family in Texas, but very sad knowing we didn't know when we would see our Hawaii friends again. Julie coordinated a going away party and we were very blessed. The new families that just moved in joined us, which was great so I didn't bawl the entire time. That came later.

Kayaking Adventure

Beau, Brynne, Joel, and Justin kayaked out to one of the Mokulua islands from Lanikai beach. They had fun at the island making a "sitting pit", then venturing around to the back where the tide pools are. Beau said the waves were huge. Mommy stayed on the beach with Julie and babies...and it was a good thing I couldn't see when the kayak flipped! All were okay and headed back to shore. Brynne still talks about what fun it was!

Beau and I have had a lot neat dates here, which we are really going to miss! One morning Julie took the kids while we went to breakfast and then for a hike we had wanted to do without kids. The hike was a neat adventure and ended at a waterfall with a pool where people swim.

With only 2 weeks left, we're trying to see a few things we haven't, visit our favorite places, and spend time with our friends as much as possible!

And nothing to do with anything else, I just want you to experience "tenting." It is super common here...they build everything with wood so termites are a major problem (go figure). It is not uncommon to see a house being treated with a tent over it everywhere you drive. This is a picture of the duplex next to ours being treated.

One thing we really wanted for Brynne to experience while we were here was to swim with dolphins. Beau and Brynne headed for a day of fun last weekend where they took a boat through Ko'Olina Ocean Adventures out to sea. There they snorkeled with fish and sea turtles, then got to swim with the spinner dolphins! Definitely one of their favorite memories together!

Isaiah 52:12b- "for the Lord will go before you and the God of Israel will be your rear guard."

God has engraved this scripture on our hearts in an amazing way coming here. He goes before us in so many ways, many of which we never realize. As I began to make a list of all the ways He has provided for and blessed us here, I am overwhelmed. How often we miss noticing those blessings, but how much more would our hearts praise Him if we stopped and recognized all He does for us.
God placed us here in a duplex that is perfect for our family with amazing neighbors. We have never been in need, or even want. The neighbors have switched out toys, movies, dishes, a highchair, passes to events, info on where to go, surfboards, even a car. The children are the same ages and they all play outside together every day. God closed a lot of what we were involved in at Frisco and opened new doors in kailua. He provided our Frisco homes and cars to families in need. We were able to start a Bible study with our neighbors and to form some deep friendships. This came at a time before the kids were in school and it has been an amazing experience or our family, filled with wonderful memories. Our list goes on and on, and the list of what He has taught us is even longer.
I am thankful. Thankful to serve a faithful and loving God who blesses, protects, and guides His children. Thankful to have learned at a young age that the ultimate joy, (that most people spend their life trying to attain), comes from walking with Him.

We do not know what God has for us next, but this sweet time here will be forever engraved on our hearts (and scarred on my head), to remind us of His faithfulness to protect and provide. As we prepare to leave Kailua, He is showing us what it means for Him to be "our rear guard." Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus.

Visit from Pops and Auntie M

We were very excited for Pops and my Aunt Margaret to come visit us! We made great memories touring all over the place and experiencing Oahu to it's fullest. The enjoyed museums, Pearl Harbor, the beach, a luau, and we even drug them on a hike or two!

Took the best dad ever to eat on Father's Day at the restaurant behind us overlooking the mountains. LOVE this man!

For our anniversary, Julie watched the girls so Beau and I could get away. We got to do a hike we can't take the girls on, where you can climb up to a WWII lookout bunker. We were actually able to sit on top of it and enjoy the view for awhile (and enjoy the quiet). Then we stayed at a friend's bed and breakfast and enjoyed a great date night out on the town! We enjoyed eating out the next day and reading at a coffee shop...you know, the things you don't get to do much with kiddos! Happy Anniversary to the most wonderful husband in the world! The Lord daily strengthens and refines our relationship, teaching us more about Him. I am so thankful for a husband who shows me and our children the love of Christ.

Culture, part 2

I left out a few things worth mentioning:
+Hawaii is 5 hours behind Texas. Call us at your lunch time or later :o).
+Have we mentioned the ginormous mountains we drive through on the freeways? The tunnels are fun, but the "escape routes for runaway trucks" that lose control going downhill, makes me a tad nervous. It had just rained in this pic, and you can see the small waterfall between the crevasses

+ The Weather - it never changes year round. I can't get over it coming from Texas where you can have a 20 degree difference in 2 days. You have occasional rain, but that's it. The high ranges between 75 and 85. Wish I had the weatherman's job!
+The food- common at home meals here are pulled pork, shoyu chicken, various Japanese dishes, local fish, and unfortunately Spam. Everyone makes great rice in their rice cooker. I learned how to and love it, after being made fun of for my minute rice :0).
+In all the towns near the beach (including ours), there is a major homeless problem. It's really sad. There is no where for them to go and they can't afford a way out. It's a smart place to live - public restrooms and showers on the beach and always great weather. Some don't want to be helped, but my heart breaks for the ones who do. Wishing there was something we could do.

The Culture Here

Oahu is a hodgepodge - of people and plants :o). There are all kinds of different people and a zillion plants everywhere. I am blown away at God's creation. You look at the tropical areas, seeing so many different types of plants, bushes, flowers....just a glimpse of His creativity. It's all I can do on my morning runs to keep running and not fall down in worship. GORGEOUS, everywhere. I don't know how people can get used to this to a point where they take it for granted. Here are a few of my favorites.
The Hibiscus flower

Your basic palm tree. they are all mixed in around here. Brynne always walks around them because she is afraid of coconuts falling on her.

Plumeria trees. My fav - they smell awesome

Papaya trees. Between the fresh papaya, mango, and pineapple, it's a wonder we don't all have diabetes

The african tulip tree. I love the blossoms - they are beautiful mixed in all the green

The Myna birds walk around everywhere. They ALL sing at sunrise. Don't worry if you forget to set your alarm, they will take care of it.

As for the dialect - they have their own hawaiian language, but they mix it up like we do in texas (tex-mex). For example:
porch = lanai
appetizer = pupu
children = keiki
go to the restroom = go she-she (prob misspelled, but looks better that way)
neighbors/friends - auntie/uncle (instead of mrs/mr)

There is a lot more, those are just a few. I never understand what people are talking about because it seems like every proper name here, whether it's a school or another location, starts with a "k" and has a lot of letters (mostly vowels) after it.
also - leave your shoes at the door of any home (even the nursery at church), therefore wear flipflops at all times
It's SOOOO humid - put everything in the fridge or it will mold. Forget about your hair. The good news is the beach will always make the humidity worth it!
The lifestyle is slower than Dallas that's for sure (except for school zones...no one slows down here for those). Slowing down the pace is definitely something we plan on bringing back with us. The girls are only small once :o(

As for Mother's Day, it was awesome..island style! Nice and relaxed. Had a great date night with the hubs fri, a long nap sat, breakfast in bed sunday and a North Shore drive. Great time with my favorites - mark it down as a great Mother's Day!

Update on the girls -
Madelyn's new words are "baby, happy, anana (banana), shhh (you're too loud), this, mimi (her grandma), me, Ben (Brynne), and a few animal sounds (dog says ruff, lion says roar). The girl has no fear, which is not working to our advantage on stairs, pools, the beach, nor the playground. She says "happy" all the time, which I honestly love because it's a good reminder of the joys in life.

Brynne - has gotten over her longing to stay inside all the time and is now asking to go outside a lot ( it used to be a struggle in Texas). I've really watched her blossom as she has had to make new friends and she seems more confident in talking to people. The girls love each other a lot, and for that I'm thankful. I know their days of fighting will come, but for now I'm enjoying where we're at. I looked down during my run today and brynne had her arm around Maddy and Maddy was cuddling in to her as Brynne sang. Love it. Brynne is reading simple books now, so we go to the library every week and check out some new books.

Take a Hike

People hike and kayak a lot here. Since it's pretty tough for us to kayak with the girls, we've been looking into the different trails we can hike with kids. Brynne loved her first hike...Maddy not so much. She was mad she couldn't walk like big sissy.

I know maddy is in the sling wrong...she was waking up from a nap and finishing it in the beginning of our walk. We pull her arms out over the top and she sits back to take it all in.

There was a fundraiser at the elementary school close by. We joined the festivities and got to play games, eat authentic hawaiian food, watch various hula dancers, and eat more food from local restaurants. I had to take this picture of Beau trying to teach Brynne to play putt-putt...and Maddy trying to help.

Happy easter! We were able to join the neighbors for church, an egg hunt, brunch, and swimming!

We went to the children's museum in Honolulu. It was 3 stories, with each level set up like a little town. It wasn't so much for entertainment as it was imagination. Each area was set up so kids could pretend they were a vet, doctor, grocery shopping, and on other levels, in China, Hawaii, Philippines, etc... Brynne could have spent all day there!

Before I can post a bunch of fun pics, I wanted to update about the events that have unfolded here. My sweet friend Julie I told you about invited us to have Easter brunch with her and her friend V (who has a hubby in the military and was out of town for Easter). Julie's parents were out of town, so all three of us coordinated Easter dinner over email to eat and swim at Julie's parent's house (calling her V for protection)
The Saturday night before Easter, Julie comes over frantic because she just received word V's oldest son had committed suicide. 20 min later, we have Julie's two kids and V's 4 other kids in our home and Beau is mass producing macaroni and cheese. Since then, we have been helping Julie as much as possible so she can support V.
Needless to say, Beau and I have walked the road of grief and walked the road of grief with several friends over the past two years. The Lord has prepared us for this in so many ways, more than I imagined. I was able to think clearly about initial course of action when V and Julie couldn't, help cook and clean for Easter to keep things normal for the kids, help with the kids, set up a care calendar for food and childcare for V, lead them to websites and other places for dealing with grief, encourage Julie and offer things that worked for us before,...the list goes on and on.
Let me say, scripture is clear God doesn't need me. He will provide and protect these families on His own. Having said that, He is faithful to use the comfort He has given us to comfort others. God has confirmed being here was the best thing for us as a family. He provided the means to get here, people to use our cars and home, an amazing neighbor who I have spent every day with like we have known each other forever, an amazing group of women to take over the women's ministry back home, and now a ministry opportunity I never saw coming. Sometimes we have in our minds what missions look like....I didn't realize so much until now that missions can sometimes be what you already know. Seriously, Hawaii is behind the times technology wise in everything. They use VHS tapes still...enough said. So setting up a care calendar to help the church ladies help V instead of bombarding her is ministry to them. Cleaning and caring for children, ministry. We have prayed the Lord would use us here...He is faithful.
I could write a ton more on all this...but there are children to be tended to. Pray for V and Julie. V has a lot of children. Pray for their grief management and that their child-like minds could understand God as their comforter and big brother. The service is tuesday, may 3rd.

Week 2

We've adjusted more to the time change and differences here. Beau has been working hard, and is gone half the days with the car, so I've had to get creative with what to do with the girls. My neighbors have been amazing. I truly believe they are a reason why we are here. Day 2 - Julie is on my front porch with toys, groceries, a list of things to do (and avoid), and dinner. Seriously? The Lord's provision with this transition has been amazing. I feel like I have known Julie forever and we have spent time together everyday since we have been here.We are a great fit to encourage one another, and we have already started a bible study together. And our kids, they love each other. If you're reading this, please pray for Julie and her husband Joel right now - that they would continue to be a bright light in their community.

Kailua Town party was last week. It's a festival they do once a year where they shut down the main street in town, and all the restaurants and vendors come out. We even got to see several hula dancers!

Aloha from Hawaii!

We are loving the townhome and region we live in. It's a favorite place of the locals and we can see why. Everywhere we walk, the scene is gorgeous. So far I have walked to the town every morning to get groceries with the girls in the double stroller, and on thursday we went to the town farmer's market. It's neat to see the things that are similar, and that which is different. The sense of community here is amazing, and next time I'll blog about our neighbors that we have been so blessed by. I love the casual everything..Beau and I fit right in wearing our work out clothes all the time, hair always up due to humidity, and everyone is "family." There is no ac - everyone has open windows all the time (but you can hear everything...you get close quick that way). THe other night I was washing dishes while Beau was outside with the girls and all the kids. I kept hearing "uncle Beau," and wondering "what in the world?" Then my neighbor told me that in Hawaii, you call neighbors aunt and uncle instead of mr./mrs. as a generous gesture saying "you're like family." Every time we walk outside, the kids yell "Hi auntie Mel!" I hope to post pictures of them soon!

All settled

We are all settled in our condo in Hawaii and enjoying it. The travel day was smooth except for Madelyn's meltdown around bedtime. We left our Frisco home at 10am to get to the airport and walked into our Hawaii condo at 2 am (Frisco time). Long day, but we were thankful for the many mercies throughout the day.
We're working on getting adjusted to the time change...we hear it takes a week. We got our bags unpacked, went to breakfast, grocery shopped, and took a scenic drive this morning. Brynne and I enjoyed a jog to the park so she could play.
Tonight we were blessed to know all the neighbors with kids come out into the grassy knoll in front of our condo every night. Brynne met several new friends and had a blast. I think we will really like hanging out with our next door neighbors, whose kids are 5 and 2. Beau had met them before, and they were so kind to have a few baby items waiting for us here when we arrived.
I hope to post pictures soon! Thanks to the friends who have been faithful in praying for our adjustment!

Our sweet church friends can always find a reason to party..so they gave us a "temporary going away party," and it was so much fun! They rented a clubhouse that had a park and 2 bounce houses for the kids. Good gosh there was food and they gathered to pray over us. We were so blessed by it all and love local body of Christ the Lord has allowed us to be a part of. No words can describe the depths hearts feel when you get in the Word and pray together and live life together. We will miss them dearly!

Many of you know Beau began working with St. Jude Medical almost a year ago, training to become a territory manager in the neuromodulation division. He absolutely loves his job and it is a perfect fit for his skill set. Since January, they have put Beau on a temporary case covering for a territory manager in Hawaii on maternity leave. He has been flying there every 2 weeks and staying there for 2 weeks. The company would benefit more from him being there full time for a number of reasons, so they have agreed to move us there for the remaining 4 months of his assignment.

We have missed him so much and are so excited God has worked out the details for us all to be together all the time. The company is leasing a townhome of a family that is doing the same thing as us, (they too have children), and have kept it furnished for us. The townhome is in a great neighborhood, an area where Beau works often, and it is a central location for him to store his medical supplies. It is walking distance to the store, park, beach, and restaurants, and Beau has already met the neighbors (and lots of kids!). Beyond our wildest imagination, God unfolded every detail for us to be able to stay there. It's an opportunity we would never have otherwise had and a great stage in our life to do it. We're excited to teach our children about a different culture, for the adventure we will get to take as a family, for getting involved in the acts 29 church plant there, and most of all getting to be together. What a blessing to show our children that when God calls...you get up and go! We'll miss our friends and family deeply, but we know the time will go by quickly!

We can hardly believe our sweet Madelyn is one! This past year was long and tough for numerous reasons, yet I'm not sure how it seemed fast at the same time. It feels like we brought her home from the hospital last month! She is so darn sweet - giving kisses, hugs, and laughs to Brynne, Beau, and I all the time. She brings joy to our hearts every day. We love you Maddy!

Madelyn started crawling around 7 1/2 months, and life has not been the same since. She is into everything and I can't turn my back for a minute! One day, Brynne decided she was done with breakfast and put her plate down, and Maddy crawled over, played in the syrup and started eating a waffle all while I ran to the restroom! These girls are definitely keeping me on my toes!
They are a joy everyday! I love watching both of them learn new things and most of all I love watching the love they have for each other. Maddy gives her open-mouth kisses FREELY now and it's adorable to watch! What a blessing the Lord has entrusted us with!

I have prayed a lot that Brynne and Madelyn would love each other deeply. I fretted before Maddy was here that Brynne would not feel replaced. Praise Jesus....Brynne LOVES her sister. The girls and I headed to the Arboretum with some friends to celebrate the beginning of spring! It's gorgeous there..all the tulips were in bloom. It was "mommy and me" Monday, so Brynne was able to enjoy face painting, dancing, and a petting zoo!

Madelyn Virginia Schmidt arrived 2/17/10 at 1:43pm at 7lbs, 11.5 oz. It was a great labor and delivery experience this time, and Madelyn has been so sweet! Brynne is adjusting quite well and loves assuming her role as the big sister. "Maddy" looks just like Beau's baby picture...yes more than Brynne! Life with 2 girls is keeping us super busy, and tired...but we love them!

Had to include a picture of the amazing lobster and steak dinner the hospital gives the parents the second night of their stay. I can still taste that chocolate cake!

We were blessed with a white Christmas this year! It snowed the week before and on Christmas Eve! Brynne was able to celebrate Christmas twice, once with the Schmidt family and then again on Christmas with us and pops. It was so much fun this year since she knew what was going on!

Brynne had multiple fall festivals this season, between churches, school, etc... and she has had so much fun! It has been really neat to see her understand what is going on this year. Brynne basically dressed up every day for a week straight - whether it was a festival, halloween, or just playing around the house!

May 29th was Beau's and my 5th wedding anniversary. We were able to spend it with some great friends, the Arringtons, who celebrate the same anniversary just a few weeks after us. We spent five days down in beautiful Hollywood Beach and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was a blast! The boys have known each other since they were little, so it's so neat to see how God has kept them close through the years, and gave them both wives from Spring, TX!
I am amazed at the blessing the Lord has loaned me through my sweet husband. My heart overflows with thankfulness. I love you babe! Here's to many more years.

I walked into this the other day...

Girlfriend has figured out how to brush her teeth on her own and drags this stool everywhere in our house to get what she wants. Lord knows how much toothpaste this child has swallowed in her lifetime.
Below is princess day at the movie theatre. Brynne's first official trip to the movie theatre and she got to enjoy it with her friends Kaelyn and Shae. They were taught how to curtsy and twirl, then we watched the movie "Mulan."

Brynne had a super fun birthday party to attend last weekend for a boy in her class. His family had a company come to their home that brought a petting zoo! She had a blast holding chickens, ducks, and bunnies. She got to feed goats, a horse, and a cow...then to top it off, there as a pony ride at the end. Yes...in the middle of a neighborhood in Dallas suburbia. It was crazy!

Healing

We were able to get some fun pics of Brynne last weekend, but before we post them, I felt the need to mention Mom. Although the purpose of this blog is to highlight Brynne's life, I don't want to disrespect my mom by not mentioning her again or by acting like we have all moved on. We miss her very much, think of her often, mourn her not being here, and we definitely still have tough days...especially Dad. It gets a tad easier every day, because the Lord grants us peace, strength, and a love for Him that makes my heart sing "whatever Your will Lord, I will follow...He gives and takes away...my heart will choose to say, Lord, blessed be Your name." It's not the path we'd choose, but as history and prophets have shown, our true love for Him is revealed when life hands us what we don't want.
We need continued prayer - not only for healing, but strength as we face cleaning out and selling the old house, making the new one a home, and Dad moving forward with his new life in Aubrey. Many people don't have to face cleaning out their spouse's things and clothes for a year...but my parents were in the process of moving and we had to face these difficult things right away - in addition to dealing with the painful memories of her tragic death. Many friends have helped on both ends and we can't say enough how blessed we feel. Dad has a great new job, great new neighbors, and a beautiful new home. I pray daily that He would draw near to the Lord through this time and let God minister to his hurting heart. I choose to believe God will bring good out of this and that He will heal our hearts towards joyful memories of Mom. We love and miss you Mom! We're choosing to step forward and love others more as Mom would want. If she could tell us right now, standing there next to Jesus, I know she would remind us of Isaiah 43 that our purpose on this earth is to KNOW and BELIEVE Him, and that every day should be spent as it was our last day on earth to fulfill this purpose.

The past month has flown by...and Brynne has grown like a weed since we last posted pictures! She has been in "3T" sizes for a month now, and has had 2 haircuts to make up for her "self-induced" accident of a haircut. It looks precious now...

It's the cry throughout Isaiah, it's the heart behind Christ's words as He speaks to us...that each of us would grasp even a fraction of our purpose....
Isaiah 43:10 - "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD,
"and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe Me
and understand that I am He.
Before Me no god was formed,
nor will there be one after Me.
That is the cry of my heart...and how I desire for everyone in my life...to know Him deeper and to put down our other "gods." We consume ourselves with so many other obsessions...anything we obsess about more than God becomes an idol - right under our noses and we don't even know it's there! The average "suburbian" woman seems to understand how materialism is idolatry, but very few of us put our pride down long enough to let the Holy Spirit reveal the things we're consumed with more than Him. For example: worrying about our children, the cleanliness of our house, our appearance, people pleasing/whether or not others like us, busyness, getting our point across, being successful, time on the internet, proving ourselves to others, being liked, did I mention worry???...and the list goes on.... It's a plague in suburbia that leaves women feeling empty, lacking peace, anxious, and being driven by false gods that don't fulfill. Being set free from these idols is a daily process for everyone...God constantly reminds me to refocus, and often knocks me upside down with something that has been consuming me without my realization.

Philippians 3:7-9 - But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.

Lord may we be found in You, filled with faith and focused on You above all else.

My sweet hubby's' b-day is the 7th of January and mine is the 19th, so this month has a lot of excuses for cake eating! Our last year in our 20's...we better make the best of it!

We really appreciate the calls, cards, texts, emails, etc....so much. Thank you for surrounding our family with prayer and support. Although I have my moments, please know God has granted me a peace through this that I just can't explain. There is a blessed assurance that He is in control, He can get us through anything, He has the sovereign right to give and take away, that His plan is bigger than we an understand, that grace is here (we see pieces, but how much more can't we see?), and that we will one day mend to where we can just rejoice over mom's life and not feel such deep sorrow. The 11 days that mom was in ICU, she was in a vegetative state that we knew she would never want to live in. We were at a point of devastation in facing that mom may be in a hospital bed and unresponsive the rest of her life...which changed our prayer towards begging God to take her because we knew she wouldn't want to live that way. Mom is joyful and dancing with Jesus...that grants a peace I can't explain.
Philippians 4:7 - And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
This peace is needed to guard...satan is constantly whispering lies and seeking depression in our lives...and I'm constantly reminded to seek His truths and peace to guard my heart. It's hard. Life is hard. It's supposed to be..it's not heaven. I'm looking forward to the days I get to be with her again. I miss her so much. I want to mourn in a healthy way, but I refuse to let satan rob me of the unknown days I have left. His plan wasn't ours...but who am I?
He is my rock, fortress, strength. He is my purpose, peace, and daddy. In all things, to Him be the glory.

My mother, or Nemo to Brynne, suffered a brain aneurysm on December 11th. She was in ICU for 11 days and went to be with Jesus on December 22nd. She lived 61 great years...a woman of gentleness and compassion. Our hearts are broken in so many ways, yet we have found comfort and grace throughout it all. Christ is with us and comforting us as we mourn, and giving us the strength to take a step forward. She has left a legacy and will never be forgotten.

My sister-in-law did a great job putting a quick family birthday party together the one night we were in town. Just now getting around to posting our Halloween pics! Brynne wanted nothing to do with getting her picture taken this year! Our church sponsored neighborhood halloween parties to build community with our neighbors. They gave us a bounce house for Halloween..and it was quite a hit with the kiddos!
Brynne originally was going to be a butterfly princess, but became very opinionated about what she wanted....she wanted Tinkerbell pj's and wanted to wear her tutu. She loved telling our neighbors "I Tinkerbell!"

Brynne constantly keeps us on our toes these days to say the least! She is on the go at all times and never stops unless she passes out. All the moms of mobile toddlers are saying "Amen,"...you just don't understand until you're there. To all the moms before whose toddler acted up in public and I pridefully thought "I'd never let my child get away with that," FORGIVE ME!!! This age is SO fun as they learn more and more each day...but it's exhausting! My sweet neighbor called the other day to say..."I get it now! My child is into everything!"
Brynne has a lot of love in her heart and is constantly giving us hugs and kisses..and constantly ordering us to hug too! She has a lot of compassion for those that are hurting and brightens up everyone's day with her big hugs! She often walks over to us, throws her arm around us and says "I love you mommy (or daddy),"..."you can have whatever you want my child...just stop looking at me with those big blue eyes!"

First, if you haven't seen the movie "Fireproof," - it's a must see. Don't be detoured by the poor acting in the beginning -the rest of the movie is amazing and an amazing testimony of His grace and purpose for marriage. It was so encouraging to see something holy at the movies for once!!
Next, you must know that our amazing "human copy-cat" has picked up my nickname for Beau ("Bo-Bo"), and runs around now calling him this. It's stinkin hilarious and drives Beau insane. I can't tell you how many times this week he has said, "no, it's daddy!!"

Next - I have too many pregnant friends to count right now and have had SOOO many conversations this week about registering, that I decided to post it. There's a million things you could register for a baby, but very little that you actually use. The marketing scheme to reach mothers makes them fearful their child will be missing out if they don't have all this stuff. It frustrates me, so here's Brynne's top 5 registry list:
1. Car Seat - you have to get them home from the hospital, so an obvious must. Several friends saw my frustrations with having to buy 2 car seats in the first year, so let me recommend to go straight to the multiple age one and save yourself money.
2. Pack n' play that has a bassinet -
if you don't double register, you'll get more items. Instead of registering for a bassinet you won't use after 8 weeks (hopefully), get the pack n' play with one because you'll use that forever.

If you're about to have a baby earlier than expected, (as some of the friends I spoke with), and haven't had time to register yet, 1 & 2 are enough to get by for awhile! Don't worry!!

3. Swing N' Bounce - again, 2 gifts in one. Brynne slept in this often...even at night when she was colicky. This was my saving grace.
4. Stroller - you'll have to buy a double one later if you're planning on more kids...so save yourself a few bucks
5. Bath. WHile in the bath, give them their liquid vitamins b/c it's messy. A friend recommended giving the baby "Poly-Vi-Sol" vitamins after 6 weeks old and the AAP confirmed it this week on the news that if you breastfeed, your baby doesn't get the needed Vitamin D and needs supplement. That's my only recommendation....your kids won't be super sick without it, but believe it helped Brynne fight off a lot of sicknesses her first year...b/c she was around other kids a lot!
Okay, let's make it 6. Diapers and bottles..kinda need those.
The rest is preferrence. Seriously - it cracks me up when people say you have to have this/that...as if babies really used to have these things! One friend swore by the wipes warmer...I've never plugged it in because the cord couldn't reach, and now I'm so thankful! Brynne didn't freak out in public b/c she was spoiled by warm wipes! There are other things we enjoyed - the boppy, the bumbo, pacifier, formula dispenser, etc...,

All in all...sweet mommies to be...please know He is in control. We obsess about eating certain foods, doing things certain ways.. yayayaya. The truth is - inner city, under-nourished KIDS are getting pregnant and having perfectly healthy babies and obsessed moms are doing everything by the book and having kids with difficulties. The final say is we're not in control...I realize it more and more every day Brynne gets older. REST. We need prayer and seeking Him with the path and child He's chosen for us. If you didn't pray before...I hope you begin when you have a child!

1 Samuel 1:27-28 - "I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of Him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there.

We made our trip out to the pumpkin patch this week with the Arrington twins. It was so fun! This is such a fun age - Brynne is beginning to understand holidays and events..we're enjoying her so much! She wanted to take every pumpkin home...

Women's Retreat

I've been MIA from the blog for awhile because of a little retreat to finish planning. We had a little under 60 women come out for our church women's retreat last weekend. Unfortunately, I can't seem to remember to take pics for anything! God worked in amazing ways, as always, and we had a lot of fun!

God desires to replace the lies that satan and society fill our minds with daily with the Truth of His Word! The retreat gave all of us time to stop and evaluate where we place our focus, to examine areas of our hearts and lives that aren't glorifying God, and to evaluate areas where we haven't been believing God's Truth. My heart's passion is that all women, especially Brynne, will understand their value and worth in Christ, that He is what makes us secure and beautiful, and that our purpose here on earth is to glorify Him!

Brynne's first day of Sonshine school was yesterday! She was such a big girl with her backpack, lunch, and napmat! The teacher said she loved being there! She wanted nothing to do with getting her picture taken that morning!
She amazes us more everyday with the things she learns and says! We love you SO much Brynne!

PT Girls Reunite

I had a blast this weekend getting to reunite with my sweet friends from PT school! We were like sisters for 3 years and now we live all throughout Texas. We threw a baby shower for Amy and Stacey, and we had a fabulous time just catching up and hanging out!! I miss you girls!

These last few weeks have brought a lot of change into the Schmidt household! The main topic to share is Beau's job! Beau will start in a new medical sales job tomorrow!! We're SOOOO looking forward to having daddy home more.

We headed to the beach with grandma and grandpa last week and had a blast! Brynne loves getting to run in the waves, build sand castles, and collect sea shells!

Once we returned home, we took advantage of being off work and took Brynne to the Fort Worth Zoo. She was mesmerized to say the least!

Brynne has had a rough time sharing with her new cousin Haley...especially the attention. However, for about 10 minutes on monday, Brynne "shared" her blanket with Haley while watching TV and became possessive of her! All of a sudden, it's big cousin to the rescue. She may boss you around for the next 10 years of your life Haley...but deep down we see, as in these pics, she loves you so much!
